I received the following urgent message from the 2018 Michigan cannabis legalization campaign:
Don’t be surprised if the Committee to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol shuts down a few days after you read this email. Despite all the progress we’ve made, a lack of funds may keep us from putting an initiative that would end marijuana prohibition in Michigan on the November 2018 ballot.
You see, we need to collect 366,000 gross signatures in support of the initiative by November 22, 2017 in order to get it on the November 2018 ballot. The signature drive is 75% complete and well ahead of schedule, but our campaign desperately needs money to finish the job. Unless we can raise an additional $200,000 this week, the drive may well be suspended.
This is not a drill. Just a few months ago, calling off the signature drive would have been unthinkable. Unfortunately, our funding situation has changed since then. It is no exaggeration to say that we are now in dire straits.
No other states will have marijuana legalization initiatives on their ballots in 2018. If we want our movement to maintain its unprecedented momentum, we need to make a stand in Michigan today. If we don’t, thousands of Michiganders will continue to be arrested for no good reason.
Please donate $10, $25, or $1,000 today so we can keep our campaign alive! Every dime you contribute brings us one step to closer to the $200,000 we need to end prohibition in Michigan.
