Illinois Cannabis Legalization Hearing Tomorrow

illinois medical marijuana

I do not have high expectations for cannabis legalization occurring in Illinois in the near future given how restrictive Illinois’ medical cannabis program is and how hard it was to get in place. However, I would absolutely love to be wrong. Below is a message that I received out of Illinois today about an important hearing that is taking place tomorrow:

Tomorrow, Illinois lawmakers will hear another round of testimony on cannabis legalization for adults 21 and over, with an emphasis on how it can help grow Illinois‘ economy. Experts and supporters, including travel personality Rick Steves, will address lawmakers and answer questions. Supporters are welcome to attend, and the hearing will also be livestreamed for those who can’t make it in person.

What: Joint hearing on economic development
Where: Michael A. Bilandic Building, 6th Floor, Chicago, IL
When: 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 28

While tax revenue can make a big impact on state coffers, the financial impact of legalization is far broader. Whether it’s through new jobs for struggling communities, more business at the local hardware store, or additional work for contractors and professionals, countless lives benefit. Travel guru Rick Steves has seen how improved marijuana policies in both Europe and his home state of Washington have transformed communities. Other experts and business owners who are part of the emerging economy will also share their stories and insights.

This is the third hearing on legalization this year, and this is an exciting time in Illinois as the state continues to look more closely and more seriously at marijuana legalization.

Please pass this message on to your own network, and help get the word out. If you can’t make it to tomorrow’s hearing in person, be sure to tune in online!

Thank you,

Coalition for a Safer Illinois
