Adam Ruins Everything: The Sinister Reason Weed is Illegal

In Adam Ruins Everything, host Adam Conover takes viewers on a comically yet completely serious quest to reveal the hidden truths and expose misconceptions behind, well, everything. Tackling a wide range of topics from voting to nutrition to the eyeglasses racket, Conover provides facts that can help you win some friendly bar bets, as well as new information that may just help you see the world in a different way.

On November 15th, “Adam Ruins Drugs” was aired as the show detailed the history of marijuana use, the Reefer Madness techniques used to criminalize cannabis and exposed the holes in the debunked “gateway drug theory.” Conover also discussed how ineffective the D.A.R.E. program is and the danger of legal prescription drugs.

With all of our electoral success and support for cannabis legalization at an all-time high across the nation, it is sometimes hard to believe how prevalent Reefer Madness was in our society. We have come a long way, but we must remain vigilant, especially if Jeff Sessions does indeed become the new Attorney General. While we are stronger than ever, we must remain vigilant to prevent a repeat of history. Prohibitionists are certainly planning on using all of their tools available to snuff out our movement, so we must counter with the truth, and if the truth can be told in an entertaining way, then the average American is more likely to pay attention.

While most of the facts surrounding cannabis in “Adam Ruins Drugs” won’t be a surprise to those that have studied the issue, the episode is a great chance for cannabis law reformers to brush up on history and share some of the fallacies behind the War on Drugs with friends and family. Just in time for Thanksgiving! Be sure to show this episode to folks that still want to perpetuate the failed and harmful Drug War. Adam Ruins Everything airs at 10/9C on truTV and followed up the “drugs” episode with “Adam Ruins Prison,” exposing some of the evils lurking behind the prison industrial complex.
