I received the following alert out of Alaska today:
The Marijuana Control Board is scheduled to hear from the public tomorrow on proposed rules allowing on-site consumption of cannabis. This would give adults a much-needed place to consume outside a private residence. It’s a modest proposal: On-site use would only be allowed at highly regulated locations and only in communities that welcome them.
Opposition to this regulatory approach has been ramping up, and it’s important for supporters to be present and make their voices heard. For a print-out with tips and possible talking points, click here. A copy of the proposed rules is available online, and official notice for the hearing is also posted.
What: Public hearing – on-site marijuana consumption endorsements
Where: State of Alaska Crime Lab, 4805 Dr. MLK Jr. Avenue, Anchorage
When: Wednesday, December 19, 2018 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
A conference line is available for those who cannot attend in person, at 1-800-315-6338, access code 69176.
Opponents are likely to paint a dire and unrealistic picture of these locations, and supporters need to present the sensibility of regulated facilities, particularly where there is no option for tourists and Alaskans who can’t consume at their residence.
If you can attend in support, please do so. And please forward this email message to friends, family, and other supporters to help get the word out!
