I received the following action alert today:
We need your help once more to ensure that patients across the country are protected. The U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations will be making a decision on the 2018 budget this week that could leave state medical programs and patients vulnerable to federal prosecution.
Currently, the ONLY thing protecting state medical cannabis programs from Attorney General Jeff Session’s Department of Justice (DOJ) raids and arrests is an amendment to the Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies (CJS) budget that prohibits the DOJ from spending federal funds to prosecute anyone participating in a medical cannabis program as long as they are abiding by state laws.
In May, Sessions sent a letter to congressional leaders asking them NOT to include that amendment in the budget for 2018. It seems he is anxious to start interfering in state medical cannabis programs.
The current protections will end in September: we need you to make sure they continue. The results could be disastrous!
Thank you for all that you do for patients everywhere,
