If you live in Illinois, check out the action alert that I received yesterday from the Coalition for a Safer Illinois:
On Monday, January 22, Illinois lawmakers will continue to hear testimony on cannabis legalization and regulation for adults 21 and over. This hearing will focus on how better marijuana policy will impact public health. Supporters are welcome to attend, and the hearing will be live streamed for those who can’t make it in person.
What: Joint House and Senate hearing on taxing and regulating cannabis
Where: Michael A. Bilandic Building, 6th Floor, Chicago, IL
When: 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 22
There are many speakers who will address this issue, including Dr. David L. Nathan, president and founder of Doctors for Cannabis Regulation and a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. Also presenting will be Dr. Leslie Mendoza-Temple, the medical director of the integrative medicine program and assistant professor in family medicine at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, and Carmen Brace, founder of Aclara Research, who will share results from a recent survey about cannabis and opioid use.
This is part of the legislative effort to thoughtfully consider regulating cannabis and is the fourth hearing led by Sen. Heather Steans and Rep. Kelly Cassidy. This is an exciting time in Illinois as the state continues to look more closely and more seriously at marijuana legalization.
Please pass this message on to your own network, and help get the word out. If you can’t make it to Monday’s hearing in person, be sure to tune in online!
