Berlin Researchers Hope To Recruit 25,000 Marijuana Consumers For A Study

There is so much fake marijuana news out there that it makes my head spin. A number of fake news stories out there are being perpetuated by various sites, and often revolve around the idea that you could get paid big money to smoke marijuana. Sometimes it’s NASA that is supposedly running the study, and other times it’s other entities. Virtually 100% of the time the stories are pure fake news.

But there is one story going around about a marijuana study that appears to be completely legit, although it’s worth pointing out that the study is still waiting on approval from the German government. The German study is apparently looking for 25,000 Berlin marijuana consumers in order to look at marijuana’s effect on people over a long duration of time. Per The Local:

A research initiative hopes to get approval for a study that would recruit 25,000 recreational cannabis consumers in Berlin – if it can get government approval.

The group called the Research Initiative on Cannabis Consumption is hoping to get an application for a new study approved so that they can analyze the “consequences of cannabis for psychologically healthy, adult consumers”. The aim is to understand what effects cannabis use has after several years, according to the group, which was started by a Berlin lawyer and a clinical psychology professor at the Medical School Hamburg.

The initiative reported last week that they had submitted an updated application to the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) for approval.

The study has received 2,000 applications so far according to the cited article. The study will not involve people under 18, people that have never consumed marijuana prior to participating in the study, and will not accept anyone who is at risk of ’potential addiction or psychiatric problems.’ Germany is likely to become the cannabis capital of Europe with one of the largest medical marijuana programs on the planet about to become a reality. To put it into perspective, Germany has over twice the population that California does, with California being home to roughly half of America’s entire marijuana industry.
